Some of the best golf courses in Greece are found in Athens, Corfu, Rhodes, Halkidiki and Crete.

Although Greece offers the ideal conditions for golf, golfing is not yet as popular a sport, as elsewhere, but there are still some good courses throughout the country. Some of the golf courses that meet the international standard of 18 holes are found in Athens, Corfu, Rhodes, Halkidiki and Crete.

Numerous golf courses are in the planning stages, but with only very few Greeks regularly playing golf, the money and the players has to come from golf tourism.

Located adjacent to Athens in a suburb near the coast, the Glyfada Golf Club hosts several international events each year. The Ionian island of Corfu offers a well maintained course located on the west coast of the island. The Crete Golf Club is located just outside of the island’s capital of Heraklion on the northern coast. The design takes full advantage of the naturally rough Cretan landscape. Two more 18-hole courses are planned on Crete.

On Rhodes, another sunny Greek island, the Afandou Golf Club course has been serving golfers since 1974. Well-supported with hotels and other tourist amenities, this is one of the most played courses in Greece, though tricky water supply has sometimes left the greens less than perfect.
